This is the pen assembly that holds a ball point cartridge. It contains an electro-magnet which raises the pen off the paper. A spring pushes the pen down against the paper. It is powered through two pins which stick out near the end and connect to the two wires which move the pen left and right. The insides can be seen here. ( 49K)
